Our History
Necessity IS the Mother of Invention!
Inspiration #1 (see pictures below)
Back in 2004, my son and I were working on the “hot rod” out in
our shop. My son Chris, who was 10 at the time, grabbed a can of Coke
and took a long swig, then he set the can down - "somewhere". About an
hour later, he asked me where his Coke was? I told him it was wherever
he put it. We looked around for 20 minutes and couldn’t find the darn
thing, so off he went to the house to get another one.
Well, 2 weeks later, we were back in the shop working on the hot rod and
Chris yells over to me that he found his lost Coke can. He had placed it
on a storage shelf ½ way across the shop “so it wouldn’t get spilled”.
We laughed about it, then he dumped out the Coke can and threw it in the
recycle bin.
Inspiration #2 (see pictures below)
About an hour after Chris found his long lost drink, we decided to take
a break, so I grabbed a Mike’s Hard Lemonade while Chris grabbed
another can of soda and we went back to the shop to plan our next steps
for the hot rod. We put our drinks on the workbench and discussed some
intake and carb options for the small block Chevy. While looking over
the intake, Chris bumped my drink and CRASH. . . down it went on the
floor – shattering the bottle and sending my liquid refreshment flying
across the shop. In his panic, he also tipped over his pop can, spilling
it’s contents on the workbench. . .
Now at this point, you’re probably thinking that this poor kid is a
clutz and he should be banned from the shop! Not so. . . The reality is
that “stuff happens” and it was simply an accident. So we cleaned up the
mess then sat down in the shop and discussed solutions to this “lost”
and “spilled” drink challenge of ours.
Chris came up with the idea to “put something on the wall” behind the
workbench. He said that if we put our drinks above the bench on the
wall, we wouldn't lose or spill them anymore. So we took that idea
a few steps further, and 2 weeks later we invented our wall mounted
"beverage holders"!
Necessity really is the mother of invention. . .
